Our Big Gay Issues

Calligraphy Compass
And the county does it again. By not removing the new local ban on Gay Pride, Hillsborough County may have just taken this to the level of national embarrassment. Way to go guys. I'm sure you'll enjoy the press coverage, and visits from ACLU attorneys in the near future.

Props again to Kathy Castor, the sole member of the Commission who seems to retain a soul and respect civil rights. Please keep on standing up for what is right.

Mostly it just disgusts me. Government is pretty useless from time to time.

It's beyond sad, it disgusting. Especially how the deliberately changed the order of the meeting to avert the protesters. That's the big problem I have with "peaceful", fair fighting political activism. The jerks don't play by the rules, and the higher powers that be don't call them on it. It's not the exception, it's the rule, and activists need to anticipate and deal with it.

They should have kept someone in that chamber with a cell phone anticipating a slippery move. I find myself unsurprised.

You're not surprised, I'm not surprised. How can these other supposedly seasoned veterans be so damn naive? That bewilders me.
Unless of course, Cynical Mo hypothesizing, that they wanted it to happen, so that there would be greater national attention drawn to the issue, and the eventual confrontation would yield a bigger bang. I could be wrong of course.

It's amazing to me the people of this country haven't figured out how this works yet.

In the US, you have the right to be a neo-nazi, but nobody's going to listen if you want to have the Dr. MLK display taken down at the library.

If you have the right to offend, you have the right to be offended. It's really pretty simple, don't know why they can't get it...

I am horribly embarrassed for Hillsborough County.

This is really awful but......
Just be glad that you don't live in Marion County. My old roomate lives there and she tells me that the County Board disolved their Library Board altogether. So, there's no one to even put up a protest over small-minded, petty crap like that. If that isn't hateful, I don't know what is.
